JEWELLERY worth thousands of pounds was stolen by a thief who took a suitcase from a train which called at Didcot Parkway station en route between London and Bristol.

The jewellery, belonging to family from Bath, was in a suitcase taken from the 8.45pm train from London to Bristol on Friday, April 27, which stopped in Didcot at 9.26pm.

Dc Danny Murphy, of the British Transport Police, said: “The stolen jewellery is unique and unusual in design and some of it has been passed down through several generations of the family. It is of huge sentimental value."

“At this stage, it’s unclear when the suitcase was taken from the train.

He added: “The family is distraught to have lost these very personal items."

BTP officers are reviewing CCTV footage from stations including Didcot Parkway to try to identify the thief. The suitcase also contained a laptop computer.
