Lib Dem leader

Councillor Jean Fooks has been elected the leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Oxford City Council.

Jim Campbell will be deputy leader. The party decided on Saturday.

It lost three seats at last week’s elections, where previous leader Stephen Brown stood down.

The Lib Dems have 13 seats on the city council and are the second-largest group behind the ruling Labour administration.

Apart from being a car hater, she is a good Cllr and will make a good leader.

I have to put in a good word for a Somervillian. Jean Fooks is a staunch supporter of Youth Centre provision and opposed library cuts. Her other policies...Hm, well, she's a Somervillian so she's OK.

Jean Fooks got the second highest vote in the City in 2010 - well ahead of most councillors. You don't clock up that sort of vote as a Lib Dem councillor without doing a pretty good job for your constituents.
