Wet weather delays opening of outdoor pool

The opening of Hinksey outdoor pool in South Oxford has been delayed by the wet weather.

The pool, off Abingdon Road, was due to open on Friday for the summer season following the completion of a major maintenance programme.

A new pool lining has been installed, but the final coat needs a dry day for it to be sealed and the work will be completed over the next few days.

City council spokesman Louisa Dean said: “The pool will be opening as soon as possible and a free open day will take place to celebrate.”

Maintenance work included refurbishing the changing cubicles and toilet areas as well as installing new windows, repairing exterior walls and improving walkways.

The drainage systems around the pool have also been rebuilt and the council has improved the storage facilities for staff.

Hinksey Season Slice cards run through the summer season to September.

Along with all city council-run swimming pools, Hinksey Pool offers free swimming to all under 17s during specified sessions.
