THE Thames is on Flood Alert from Gloucestershire through to Wolvercote today.
The Environment Agency has this afternoon put the river from the Gloucestershire border to King’s Lock on its lowest warning level following the weekend's heavy fainfall.
Also on Flood Alert are the Cherwell from Cropredy to Oxford, the Evenlode and Glyme in West Oxfordshire, the Ock in the Vale of White Horse, Letcombe Brook in Wantage and Grove, Chalgrove Brook, the River Thame and the Ray south of Bicester.
A Flood Alert is the Environment Agency’s lowest level warning, warning residents that flooding of roads and fields is possible.
Agency spokesman Jo Slimin said: “Heavy rain has meant flash flooding on the roads and some rivers are coming out of their banks.
“So far Oxfordshire has escaped any serious flooding but more heavy downpours are being forecast and we are watching river levels very carefully.”
