CHARITY MATTERS: Restaurant boosts appeal

5:00pm Thursday 26th April 2012

MORE than £9,500 has been raised by generous diners taking their meals for an Oxford charity’s Simply Supper appeal.

And nearly a quarter of that total – £2,300 – was raised by a special event at the Leatherne Bottel, Goring.

It is the third year Helen and Douglas House hospice in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, has run the appeal, which sees people hosting dinners in their own homes and asking people to make a donation to the charity in return.

The event at the Leatherne Bottel, pictured above, was the first time a restaurant has got involved.

In all, 28 guests from Oxford, Henley, Reading and surrounding areas enjoyed a sumptuous seven-course meal including Champagne and canapes.

Diners could choose how much they paid for their dinner as a donation direct to the charity.

Restaurant owner John Abbey said: “Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I would like to thank everyone who came along and donated so generously.”
