  • "In other cities bus lanes are buses-only only during peak hours. It's a complete waste to have an unused lane (such as a bus lane) sitting idle for most of the day when traffic is queuing right beside it. I'd much rather the police started fining cyclists who go through red lights than enforce traffic restrictions on an already crowded road."

20 drivers fined for jumping Botley Road traffic queues today

Oxford Mail: Officers at Seacourt park and ride today Officers at Seacourt park and ride today

TWENTY drivers have been fined today for trying to jump traffic queues on the Botley Road by using the Seacourt park and ride lane.

Pc Glenn MacRae and Pc Steve Higa were out for an hour and a half stopping and fining motorists £30.

To avoid the queues heading into the city, some drivers use the park and ride lane into Seacourt, spin around roundabout and then rejoin the Botley Road traffic.

Pc Higa said: “Excuses included ‘I’m doing it to ease the traffic’ and ‘I’ve gone to pick my daughter up at the bus stop, but she’s not there’.

“We could have given more out if we’d had the resources.”
