HEADINGTON residents have given their backing to the area’s latest shark.

Posh Fish in London Road is seeking to renew its planning permission allowing it to have a shark on the roof of the shop.

Now members of the public have been writing to Oxford City Council urging it to give the shark the thumbs up.

Kennett Road resident Stephanie Jenkins said: “The people of Headington already love this shark.”

She added that the shark was “cheering up” Headington’s shopping centre which “needs all the help it can get to thrive at the present time”.

John Nealon, who lives in Old Road, said the shark was a “quirky and appropriate addition to Headington”.

In 1995 a planning inspector gave Posh Fish permission to put a whale on its roof, though this planning permission has since expired.

The inspector concluded the whale would not be “unduly obtrusive to the wider street scene”.

Oxford City Council has said it will take this application into account when deciding on the current one. The shark was put on the roof of the fish and chip shop in February. A date for the decision has not yet been set.
