HAVE you ever fancied riding along on your very own road sweeper, or taking to the garden with an industrial mower?

Now could be your chance as Oxford City Council is planning to sell off more than 50 unwanted vehicles and pieces of equipment.

The auction will take place at the council’s Marsh Road depot on Saturday.

Although the final list of items for sale will not be confirmed until the day of the auction, it includes a range of mowers, sweepers, vans and gardening equipment.

Maintenance officer Lee Wood said: “Previous sales have proved popular and provide an opportunity to buy items that the council has replaced or no longer uses.”

Council spokesman Annette Cunningham said: “Items have been replaced with more efficient, modern equipment as part of the council’s routine capital replacement programme, because they are life expired or in some cases, no longer used.

“Items are sold on an ‘as seen’ basis but will have undergone regular servicing and safety checks during their working life.”

Along with the trailers, tippers and other pieces of equipment, park benches and a metal shed are also up for grabs.

Ms Cunningham said not all items were in working order and they did not come with guarantees. She added: “It is difficult to predict the exact amount that will be raised for the sale. Items will have a reserve price based on trade prices.”

However, takings are likely to run to tens of thousands of pounds, with proceeds going back to the council.

Some of the lots date back to the 1990s, with a rough terrain forklift truck first registered in 1987 among the listed items. Many others, though, are only a few years old, with machinery including at least one Citroen Berlingo van and three Stihl brushcutters dating back to 2008 or 2009.

Ms Cunningham said items could be removed or added at the council’s discretion up to the day of the sale should an “operational need” arise.

The auction starts at 11am, with viewing from 9am. Call Mick Blacow on 07831 880013 or 01908 666835 with any inquiries.
