Yarnton Res won the Ivor Gubbins Cup with a 4-2 extra-time victory against Division 2 basement boys Stonesfield Res at Oxford University Press on Monday.

But it was strugglers Stonesfield who drew first blood when Lewis Stayte fired home just after the hour mark.

Andy Paine levelled for Yarnton when he headed in Tom Lee’s free-kick to ensure extra time.

Yarnton took the lead when Tim Bottomley smashed home the rebound after the Stonesfield keeper failed to hold onto a tricky Paine free-kick.

Ben Fouracre made it 3-1 when his shot was deflected in off a Stonesfield defender.

Five minutes into the second period of extra time, Lee smashed in No 4 from another excellent Paine cross.

Although Tom Hicks clawed one back for Stonesfield it was too late and the cup was on its way to Yarnton for the first time since 2004.
