OXFAM has launched a drive to collect a million bras in a month.

The Oxford charity wants women to drop the underwear items into its shops throughout April. They will then be sold on or donated to a second-hand-clothing project in Senegal.

London Road, Headington, shop manager Dage Loranca, pictured right with staff members Dawn Taylor and Krishnan Dhiman, said: “It’s a really good idea for women to think now is the time to clear out the house and donate these items to Oxfam. It sounds ridiculous but just a bra can make a real difference in the fight against poverty and suffering.”

The ‘Big Bra Hunt’ is supported by a number of stars including TV presenters Zoe Ball and Miquita Oliver and actor Helen Mirren said: “I had never thought to donate my bras to Oxfam. I’m sure many women have a number of bras stowed away left untouched for years.

“The Big Bra Hunt really highlights how every last item donated to Oxfam can be used in a truly unique way, making a real difference to people all around the world.” Picture: OX51265 Jon Lewis
