AS an imposing 1,000-year-old structure, Oxford Castle is no stranger to creepy-crawlies.

But some particularly unusual bugs have been fascinating visitors this week.

During half-term, some of the world’s most peculiar species have been on display, including tarantulas, giant millipedes, scorpions and cockroaches.

Getting hands-on with a leaf cockroach was Emily Farrington, who was holidaying in Oxford from her home in Hertfordshire.

The 10-year-old said: “I got to hold a cockroach, a stick insect and a mealworm as well. I really liked holding the cockroach, it was really big.”

A fancy-dress workshop and Big Bug Fancy Dress Parade takes place at 1pm tomorrow.
