A RAID at a Rose Hill home recovered four bikes which police believe were stolen from around Oxford.

Acting on a tip-off, officers rushed into the property in Nowell Road just after 9am yesterday and found four mountain and road bikes which are thought to be worth about £2,000.

Police officers said that one of the bikes, which was security marked, was registered as stolen and will now be reunited with its owner. They are now trying to establish whether the others were also stolen.

PC Chris Proto said: “We executed a warrant and found the bikes. They are a range of mountain bikes and racing bikes.”

A 38-year-old man from Rose Hill was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and has now been bailed until March 14, pending further enquiries.

For crying out loud, the Sweeney for four mountain bikes !!!

I phoned the Police recently when some youths were in the process of smashing their way into a car, their response, they sent a PCSO the next day to investigate.

Thames valley Police you are a disgrace and should be ashamed to call yourselves law enforcement officers.

This is embarrassing. In a city with serious drug related crime, human traffiking, binge drinking related disorder, hate crime etc etc. The cops get 4 bikes. What is worse? The cops being proud of it or the local rag considering it newsworthy?

Actually, bike theft in Oxford may not be a "serious" crime, but is a huge problem, with many bikes stolen to order.

Now they've made the arrests, they need to follow through with a hefty custodial sentence to deter others from bike theft.

Insuring a bike in Oxford is often more than a bike is worth, so I bet many bike thefts go unreported.

I agree that recovering stolen bikes may seem trivial , but coming out of BMW at 2am after a long shift to find someone's stolen your bike and you have a long walk home (often many miles) is not so trivial.

I'd guess the cops were familiar with the suspect already, maybe in relation to other matters, and do not warm to this person, possibly because of the particular form/s of their "previous".

You are having a larf aren't you Pen? A £30,000 car gets nicked and plod do nothing but can send the squad out for a few bikes. By the way car insurance costs far more than the value of the car if it is less than a grand, so don't moan about paying £50 for bike insurance.
