A personal trainer found with thousands of pounds worth of drugs was the cousin of a man murdered in Oxford.

Ryan Dixon was jailed at Oxford Crown Court on Friday after a stash of heroin and crack cocaine was found in his Blackbird Leys bedroom.

His lawyer said the 25-year-old’s drug intake soared after seeing his cousin Blayne Ridgway die following a stabbing outside what was then Que Pasa in Oxford city centre in May 2010.

Prosecutor Nigel Daly said police searched Dixon’s bedroom at his mother’s house in Samphire Road on July 27 last year.

They found £2,400 in cash, three mobile phones, 103g of heroin and 71.5g of crack cocaine.

In street deals the haul was worth £8,650, Mr Daly said.

Dixon earlier admitted two counts of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply on a basis that he had been looking after the items for a dealer serving a prison sentence.

Mr Daly said Dixon had previous convictions for violence and dishonesty offences, and was given a suspended sentence in July 2007 for possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply.

Lucy Ffrench, defending, said Dixon’s mother had terminal cancer at the time of the raid and she later passed away, aged 57.

She said Dixon “described himself as dependent on her”.

Mrs Ffrench added: “Mr Dixon was asked to guard this large amount of drugs and cash as well.

“He kept both items in his bedroom rather than storing them at a further distance from himself.

“He was using these drugs to some extent and used a lot more of the cash than the owner would have expected him to use.”

She said Dixon, who had recently started his own business as a personal trainer, did not sell or give the drugs to anyone else.

Judge Patrick Eccles jailed him for four years and said drugs, whether Dixon was an actual dealer or not, caused “an immense amount of misery”.

A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing to recover some of the ill-gotten gains will take place this year.
