Art students have used Oxford museum pieces to invent weird and wonderful creations.
The Pitt Rivers Museum and the Museum of the History of Science are hosting Necessity: The Mother of Invention.
It features collections explaining how need led humans towards ingenuity, from our creation of transport and lighting to our understanding of science.
Foundation stage art students from Oxford Brookes University spent the month working with exhibits to create art.
Ryan Quarterman, pictured front with Megan Whitehead and Adrian Brooks, was inspired by telescopes to produce an automated drawing machine which creates abstract patterns.
The 28-year-old said: “It has been excellent to get our work displayed to the wider public, and to be asked to make work in response to such important collections is fantastic.”
Mr Brooks, art education officer for Oxford University’s museums, said: “This project will help people to understand what our collections are about and to explore them more deeply, imaginatively and creatively.”
The artwork will be on display at Pitt Rivers from tomorrow until March 17.
