STUDENT slobs have put Oxford University’s radio station Oxide off air, with a rubbish-strewn studio proving to be the last straw after it was hit by technical problems.

The Oxide station’s controllers were forced to pull the plug on the station for three days from November 25 after they found the studio in the Oxford University Students’ Union building in Worcester Street was littered with empty bottles and other rubbish.

Sound equipment for the internet-only station was also damaged after being used carelessly by student radio presenters.

Oxide programme controller Maggie Lund said: “It’s just sad that a minority of presenters seem to treat the studio so carelessly, despite using it every week to put out their show that they work hard on and care a lot about.”

The University College student, who studies Russian and Czech, said: “We will be back on air in the new term.

“We do have some technical problems that we are trying to sort out.

“At the moment we haven’t got any plans to discipline anyone over what’s happened, but we are trying to find out which show was causing the damage and if it continues they’ll be taken off air.”
