Auctioneer's $16m record

For Oxfordshire auctioneer and TV presenter Charlie Ross, selling a multi-million-dollar car was all in a day’s work.

Mr Ross, a regular on programmes such as Flog It, Antiques Roadshow and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, is the new record holder for the highest price ever achieved for a car sold by auction in the USA.

The car, a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype, sold for more than $16m at the Pebble Beach Concours automotive auction in California.

He said: “It took a long time, but it was very exciting.”

Mr Ross has also been helping to raise cash for Children In Need. He took part in a celebrity version of The Antiques Road Trip and worked with singer Toyah Wilcox, DJ Tony Blackburn, presenter Sir Terry Wogan and actress Caroline Quentin.

Part of the show was filmed in Oxford and Wallingford.

He also got to drive two former Bond girls, Britt Ekland and Honor Blackman, pictured, in an Aston Martin for the series.

Mr Ross said: “I was driving along in an Aston Martin with Honor Blackman – it doesn’t get better than that.”
