MORE than 200 people lined Headley Way in Headington yesterday for the repatriation of the body of Lieutenant Daniel John Clack from 1st Battalion The Rifles.
The cortege made its way from RAF Lyneham to the John Radcliffe Hospital, arriving in Headley Way at 5pm.
Members of the public lined the road while representatives from a number of local branches of the Royal British Legion met outside St Anthony of Padua Church and fell silent as the cortege passed by.
Jim Lewendon, chairman of the Oxford branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “We have been coming up here for three years now and we will keep coming. We hear the families appreciate what we do.”
Corteges make their way through Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire before making their way down the A420 to Oxford for post mortem examinations.
The route is scheduled to change from September when RAF Lyneham hands over responsibility to RAF Brize Norton.
Lt Clack, 24, was killed in Afghanistan on Friday by an improvised explosive device.
