A DESIGNER from Oxford is on the road to stardom after landing a presenting role on a planned new television show.

Kerr Drummond will advise people how to make the most of their homes and create the perfect kitchen.

And he will be working alongside former EastEnders actress Nadia Sawalha, who will cook a meal for the owners of the new kitchen.

Mr Drummond, 26, who lives on Osney Island, said he was excited by the opportunity.

He said: “I have never done television before, so it’s certainly a new direction for me but when I was at St Edward’s School, in Woodstock Road, I studied theatre so I feel quite comfortable performing.

“I think it’s a great premise for a show and I’m very excited about starting.”

The 20-programme series does not yet have a name and producers are currently in negotiations about which channel it will be shown on.

Mr Drummond, who grew up in Standlake and runs Core Design in Bridge Street, Osney, said a well-designed kitchen was vital to any home.

In 2007, he was highly commended in the Design Awards’ bathroom Designer of the Year.

The next year he was a finalist in the KBBReview Industry Awards as Young Designer for Bathrooms and in 2009 he was nominated as the Young Designer of the year in KBBReview.

Mr Drummond said: “The kitchen is the heart of the home.

“Without being disrespectful to the large chains, most kitchens people buy come straight from the shop and don’t have much character. The same design can be seen in thousands of homes.

“Designing your own kitchen isn’t as expensive or difficult as people think."

Ms Sawalha, sister of Absolutely Fabulous star Julia Sawalha, shot to fame playing Annie Palmer in EastEnders. After leaving the BBC soap in 1998, she has gone on to present a variety of daytime TV shows and was crowned the winner of Celebrity Masterchef in 2008.

London-based Doghouse Media is producing the show and researchers are looking for people from Oxfordshire to take part.

They are looking for people who are willing to spend between £4,000 and £12,000.

Anyone who wants to take part should send an email inquiry to sian@doghouse-media.co.uk or call 0208 761 2021.
