“You will be caught in the end, at least hand yourself in, it’s the least you can do to make it up to your victims.”

Those were the words of one of the victims of a sex attacker who targeted women in East Oxford.

Last night she was joined by another victim in speaking out to try to catch the culprits behind attacks in Southfield Road and Westbury Crescent.

They spoke as a team of eight police officers works around the clock to catch two sex attackers responsible for five assaults in 10 days.

Officers are following up more than 100 leads, studying CCTV footage and patrolling East Oxford every day.

Two women, aged 21 and 24, were assaulted in the Southfield Road area on May 29, and a further two aged 19 and 20 were attacked in the same area four days later.

A fifth woman, aged 19, was sexually assaulted and pun-ched in the head on June 5 in Westbury Crescent.

One of the Southfield Road victims said she was walking home when she was assaulted.

She said: “Cowley Road doesn’t feel safe to me anymore and I’d never walk home alone at night if I can help it.

“This experience has scarred me.”

She said she felt upset, angry and robbed of her freedom, and called on her attacker to turn himself over to the authorities.

She said: “You’re damaging these women in more ways than you can comprehend.

“You will be caught in the end, at least hand yourself in, it’s the least you can do to make it up to your victims.”

Another of the Southfield Road assault victims said she previously felt confident walking home alone.

She said: “Now I don’t even want to walk anywhere in daylight, never mind at night.

“Unless I’m sure I’ll have someone with me I won’t even go somewhere.

“I feel vulnerable and wary of everyone.”

Det Insp Simon Morton said the team was working through leads systematically.

He said: “We have done an extensive trawl of the CCTV network and expect it will take seven to 10 days before we have examined all the footage.

“One of the pieces of information we get in response to this article might be absolutely crucial and be the break we need to arrest the offenders.”

He stressed the area remained safe.

Mr Morton said: “A few offences is enough to frighten the whole of East Oxford.

“East Oxford and Cowley are a safe place to be but unfortunately at the moment we have two offenders out there we need to catch.

“Be sensible, don’t go home alone, grab a cab or a bus and go home with a friend.”

He said the victims had been “really, really brave”.

“The fact was they felt safe and now they don’t and that’s going to take a while,” he said.
