THE parents of a little girl who lost all her limbs to meningitis, said they were humbled as dozens of people turned out to raise £5,000 to help her.

About 150 supporters of three-year-old Charlotte Nott held a fundraising walk around Shotover Country Park in Headington on Sunday.

Charlotte, from Horspath, was struck down by an aggressive form of meningitis in December, and doctors had to amputate all her limbs below the joints to stop the virus spreading.

Her family are now raising money to help meet her needs as she grows.

Her dad Alex Nott, of Hollow Way, Oxford, said he was humbled by the number of people who turned up to take part in the walk.

Mr Nott, who pushed Charlotte in her wheelchair, said: “It was brilliant.

“We haven’t added up how much we have raised, but I think that it will be around the £5,000 mark.

“It was lovely to see all of our friends and family, and also so many people who we didn’t know previously who had read about Charlotte and had come along to lend their support.

“She’s such a brave girl and I think a lot of people have been touched by her plight.”

He added: “Charlotte is getting better every day. She’s back at Horspath Nursery and they have been fantastic with her.

“She’s had her new legs for about a month and is getting on very well with those, so we hope it won’t be long before she’s up and about.”

Mr Nott said he and Charlotte’s mother Jenny Daniels were planning more fundraising events.

Family friend Jane Probets, who lives next door, took part and said: “I think the family were overwhelmed.

“Sometimes actions speak louder than words and it was brilliant to see so many people giving up their Sunday morning.

“When I heard what happened to Charlotte, I got to know the family a lot better because, like a lot of people, I wanted to help.”

The couple, who also have a one-year-old son George, were preparing to leave for a holiday in Lanzarote when Charlotte developed meningococcal septicaemia.

Mrs Nott noticed three purple marks on her chest, which she recognised as a symptom of meningitis, and called 999.

Since leaving hospital Charlotte has taught herself to crawl, to draw with her mouth and play with her toys again.
