East Ilsley trainer Hughie Morrison had a day to remember as Sagramor and Pisco Sour gave him a brilliant 188-1 double at Royal Ascot today.

Sagramor stormed home under Nicky Mackay to take the Britannia Stakes by half a length from Cai Shen at 8-1.

And then Pisco Sour, who had been only ninth in the Investec Derby, sprang a 20-1 surprise in the Group 3 Tricentenary Stakes.

Jimmy Fortune was in the saddle this time as the three-year-old triumphed by a length and three-quarters from Alkimos.

After Sagramor’s win, Morrison revealed: “This one was a plot.

“The owners, Melksham Craic, have been planning this since I bought Jasmick (the dam) in 1999 for £6,000, and the sire (Pastoral Pursuits) for £20,000.

“It's just a fantastic day.”

And it got even better with Pisco Sour’s smooth success.

“We thought Sagramor would run well, but the way Pisco Sour put that horse to bed on the gallops on Saturday you had to feel hopeful,” added Morrison.

“You can forget about the Derby – that was trainer error as he was too fresh.”
