IT IS obvious that the cuts implemented by Oxfordshire County Council on the adult social care budget are now taking effect.

I am sole carer for my mother in her late 90s, who is physically frail and has Alzheimer’s disease.

Two months ago, when my mother came out of hospital, her needs had increased substantially.

We were reassessed by social services as needing more help and a possible transition to residential care.

We were allocated a social worker but she was only on a short-term contract and we didn’t get a chance to meet her.

Despite numerous phone calls and emails I am continually fobbed off with the same story – we will allocate you a social worker as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, my own health is deteriorating, and I feel unable to care for my mother as I should.

The present coalition Government and our Conservative-led county council apparently consider it morally justifiable to take the most money from some of the most vulnerable to pay for the deficit.

Unfortunately carers do not have the time or energy to go on organised protests but I would urge those who are able to please do this on our behalf.
