While I was somewhat cheered by Glyn Limmer’s letter (Oxford Mail, May 13) I’m not sure I share his optimism.

Consider what happened in the recent AV referendum and the council elections.

On the one hand, there was the barrage of lies and distortion which resulted in the electorate’s rejection of AV.

On the other, there was the vicious vilification of Nick Clegg who obviously had no idea of what he was walking into when he agreed to form a coalition with the Tories.

Surely he didn’t believe in honour among politicians?

The outcome was exactly what was intended – the elimination of an influential third party and the re-establishment of a two-Party First Past The Post electoral system.

It looked to me like a highly successful conspiracy.
