Time after time it has been proven that readers, listeners and viewers want local news.

It took a long time to get the BBC Oxford TV News opt-out after Oxford viewers had been watching news from everywhere except Oxford for years.

Our local BBC TV news service has been an overwhelming success and yet it is now under threat, along with the station’s local radio news content (Thursday’s Oxford Mail).

Don’t think it will not happen. Make no mistake, it will if we do nothing to stop it.

We already have an example of what to expect if we fail.

Look at ITV’s excuse for regional news for Oxford after the demise of the Abingdon Central TV newsroom.

Our licence fee must mean that we can have our say, so let us make sure that the BBC director-general, who is an Oxford resident, the BBC trustees and all our local politicians hear our voice.

Write letters, emails, text, tweet and use Facebook to make sure that we get our concerns and disappointment heard while the proposals are still being considered.

After the decision has been made will probably be too late.
