Traffic has come to a standstill on the A34’s southbound carriageway because of a car fire between the two Abingdon junctions.
A black Audi burst into flames at about 4:45pm, and while nobody was injured or trapped, thick smoke has blown across the carriageway.
Traffic was stopped as fire crews tackled the blaze.
Thames Valley Police said a decision had not yet been taken whether to close the road from the Marcham interchange because of the smoke.
