FUN runners in fancy dress jogged around the University Parks in Oxford to raise funds for good causes across Oxfordshire.

The 10th annual Oxford Fun Run was organised by Oxford Rotary Club.

Organiser John Healey said: “About 400 runners have come along to support us and it was great that there was a break in the weather following a huge downpour. People run twice round the park, which is 5km.”

This year’s nominated charity was Pathway Workshop for the disabled in Blackbird Leys.

The workshop in Dunnock Way teaches people with physical and learning disabilities woodwork and machining skills to make garden furniture and animal habitats.

A number of staff from the workshop took part, including managing director Mike Kyle who said: “We don’t get any financial support from the Government so we really appreciate the efforts of runners who come here to support us.”

Barry Jenkins, 26, from Abingdon, ran dressed as a baby carrying a large teddy bear. He said: “Pathway gives the disabled a chance to find a job. I think it’s a very good cause.”

  • Runners also took part in a 7km run around Blenheim Palace yesterday. See tomorrow’s Oxford Mail.
