A mountain biker has come up with an illuminating invention that is being used in a world record attempt.

Christopher Hadaway Troutie has invented a night-light that he says is brighter than any other.

It is being used in dog sled races in Scandinavia and by mountain bike riders to cycle at night.

The Liberator light is also being trialed by the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Associa-tion’s dog rescue handler.

It is also helping a world record attempt for night kite-boarding at sea by New Zealander Louis Tapper.

Mr Hadaway Troutie, 55, of Silsden, is a floor layer in his day job, and in his spare time likes to get out on the fells on his mountain bike.

He shares his hobby with his love of engineering and enjoys working at his milling machine, with which he designed the housing and fitments for the new night-light.

“I started making LED lights because manufacturers were charging an arm and a leg. I later found I could make them better and cheaper.

“Word spread about how bright they were and people wanted more and demand was more than I could knock out in the garage.

“So I contacted Kadel Engineers in Keighley and, with help from Paul Rollins, they turn out the housing and I assemble the lights,”
