BUG hotels and bird feeders were the order of the day as children got creative at the Oxford Botanic Garden.

Children were invited to build creepy crawly homes from natural materials as part of National Nest Box Week on Thursday.

Enjoying the fun were sisters Alice Page, eight, left, and Libby, four, right, from Greater Leys, Oxford.

Alice said: “I loved the day and I especially liked making the bird feeders, which we made with milk bottles and sticks.

“We’ve put it in our garden now, but we haven’t had many birds yet.”

The Year Three pupil at St Swithun's Primary School, Kennington, added: “I think lots of them will come soon.”

Mum Linda said: “The children seemed to really enjoy making them. It made them more aware of wildlife in their own back gardens, so it was a great day out.”
