BB&O round-up

Joe McAneaney bagged a try treble to send Alchester top of the Premier Division with a 53-12 victory over Phoenix.

They capitalised on previous leaders Slough not playing to record a third straight 50-points scoreline.

Phoenix led with a converted try, but Alchester’s Tom Miles kicked a penalty.

Flankers Louis Byrne and Craig Harris ran in Alchester’s first two tries, converted by Miles, who added a penalty after a second Phoenix try.

After the break, prop Sean Cooke, No 8 McAneaney and wing Andy Blacklock notched tries.

McAneaney completed his hat-trick in the final 15 minutes, with Miles adding four conversions.

Returning captain Dan Spencer scored two tries as Bicester beat basement boys Hungerford 27-10.

Bicester led just 15-10 with 15 minutes to go.

Wing Dave Aslett and hooker Dan Horwood bagged Bicester’s opening tries, either side of a Hungerford penalty from full back Dave Cree.

Spencer crashed over for his first try before Cree converted a try from centre John Bastible.

Bicester replacement Wayne Varney was red-carded for punching, but they added tries from debutant wing Chris Nixon and Spencer, Steve Risbridger converting the latter.

Gosford All Blacks battled back to earn a losing bonus point in a 38-22 defeat at Thatcham.

The visitors lost flanker Alex Webb to an ankle injury and trailed 33-0 thanks to tries from Tom Allen, Darrell Ball, Ash Taylor, Dan Tingle and Aaron Butt, Toby Liitlechild converting four.

Wing Tim Ellis began the Gosford rally with a try, but Martin Reeve made it 38-5.

Ellis, prop Tony Baughan and Tim Sutton bagged tries two, three and four, with Ellis converting the latter.

A much-changed Harwell side went down 27-10 against Tadley 2nd in Division 1 South.

Tries from wing Joe Pigott and full back Mark Baker gave Harwell a 10-8 half-time lead.

Debutant Joe Leverson scored a hat trick of tries as Didcot demolished Harwell 2nd 80-12 in Division 2 South.

John Stephens bagged a brace, while John Madley, Sam Lacy, Ben McLoughlin, Andy Taylor, Tom Kennedy, Adrian Jones and Ben Cox scored the other tries, Paul Costello converting ten.
