Flanker Tim Knapp’s try earned Oxford Harlequins a 21-17 victory at their bogey side Coney Hill.

The Gloucester club have usually been the scourge of Quins in recent seasons, but the visitors were deserving victors on this occasion.

Fly half Jeff Stewart’s tenth-minute penalty put Quins ahead, but Coney Hill No 10 Ryan Barnett levelled in kind.

Stewart’s second penalty restored the advantage on 29 minutes and it was 13-3 at the break.

Scrum half Anthony Cope, Stewart and centres Chris Tuatara and Martin Nutt set up wing Xavier Andre, who raced in from 65 metres, with Stewart converting the try.

Andre and fellow wing Huw Jones looked lively in the second half, but on 52 minutes Coney Hill’s Adam Pettigrew was driven over near the posts for a try, Barnett converting.

Stewart calmed Quins’ nerves with a third penalty and they sealed the win with a superb team move.

Full back Graeme Crapper was tackled short of the line, but popped the ball to the supporting Knapp, who dived over.

Coney Hill’s Tom Bozzard drove over with the last play, Barnett converting.
