Old Woodstock Tn 0

Wantage Tn 2 (Keen 9, 81)

Danny Keen’s double saw Wantage boost their Premier Division title hopes with a well-deserved win against their Oxfordshire rivals at Eynsham Park on Saturday.

The victory closed the gap on leaders Ardley United to eight points and they have three games in hand.

The hosts dominated early on, but were unable to put any pressure on Ardley’s goal.

And they were made to pay when Wantage took the lead, though there was an element of good fortune.

Defender Ben Hutter collided with his keeper Richard Barrett, allowing Keen a simple tap-in.

Old Woodstock’s Mike Thorne then hit a post.

Wantage went up a gear after the break and should have doubled their advantage, but Graham Edney was unable to force the ball over.

Seconds later, Wantage’s Richard Claydon hit a post.

Victory was sealed when Keen completed his double from Tom Butler’s free-kick.

Binfield 3 (Suarez 24, Callaway 56, Withers 58)

Kidlington 0

Kidlington’s hopes of closing the gap on Ardley ended as they crashed to defeat at Binfield in a game hit by floodlight failure.

They suffered a blow early on when striker Anaclet Odhiambo went off injured after colliding with Binfield keeper Dan Weait.

After Mark Baker and Tom Woodbridge went close for Kidlington, the hosts took the lead when James Suarez smashed in a curling 25-yard shot past Tom McNamar in the Kidlington goal after Jack Johnson lost possession.

And it could have been worse for Kidlington, but McNamara denied Ian Davies with a super stop.

In the second half, Garry Calloway headed in Binfield’s second past McNamara.

After the game was twice delayed due to floodlight failure, Carl Withers sealed victory for Binfield with No 3 when the lights came on again.
