Banbury Utd 2 (Martin 31, Stone 45)

Didcot Tn 1 (Osborne-Ricketts 90)

Banbury United celebrated their first double of the season with victory against Premier Division derby rivals Didcot at Spencer Stadium on Saturday.

After a disappointing result and performance at Swindon last week, Banbury needed to get back on song, while Didcot were looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games.

Banbury piled the pressure on the Railwaymen from the start and thought they had gone ahead on 13 minutes only for Marvin Martin’s goal to be ruled out for offside.

Four minutes later, Banbury went close when David Stone saw his 15-yard shot deflected past a post for a corner.

But it wasn’t long before Banbury took the lead when Stone’s measured pass fell into the path of Martin who was tripped by Josh Huggins.

Joe Coleman took the spot-kick, but Steve Smith made a superb save, diving to his left.

Unfortunately for Smith, Martin was quickly on hand to drive the ball, low and hard into the corner of the net.

On the stroke of half-time, Banbury went further ahead when a clearance from keeper Joe Murrell gave Stone the perfect opportunity to storm past the Didcot defence, before smashing in a 20-yard drive past Smith.

In the second-half, Banbury closed the game up and never looked in any danger of throwing away their first victory for three games.

Although Didcot clawed one back when Elliott Osborne-Ricketts tapped home a cross in injury time, it was too late for the Railwaymen to get somtheing from the game.
