Thames Valley Police Authority will meet next month to decide where more than £50m of budget savings will be made.

About 250 police jobs and 55 other staff posts could be axed across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire as the force aims to save £52m over the next four years.

Chief constable Sara Thornton has said she will do all she can to minimise the impact on frontline policing.

In December, she warned the 14 per cent cut in police budgets outlined in the government’s Spending Review would result in “noticeable reductions in service”.

Oxfordshire could be hit badly as the force headquarters is in Kidlington.

The force employs 4,286 police officers, 2,817 support staff, 497 Pcsos and 505 special constables.

Home Office figures show it ranks 34th out of 43 forces nationwide for the number of officers per head of population.

The full police authority meeting is due to take place at 9am on Friday, February 18, at the Thames Valley Police headquarters in Kidlington.
