AN AMBULANCE service manager has been suspended after being charged with drink-driving.
Robert King, operations manager at South Central Ambulance Serivce (SCAS), was charged with driving with excess alcohol after an unmarked ambulance vehicle crashed into a shop in Woodstock Road, Oxford, at 11.50pm on November 30.
Mr King, 46, of Merton Road, Ambrosden, denied the charge at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Friday and will appear before magistrates again on March 4.
His trial begins on May 26 and he was granted unconditional bail.
The charge states Mr King had 274mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
SCAS spokesman James Keating-Wilkes said: “The member of staff involved has been suspended pending an internal investigation process. We feel it is inappropriate to comment further until this process is concluded.
“This incident occurred while the individual was off duty and patients were not at risk.”
In November, Mr King represented the ambulance service at a memorial service at St Mary the Virgin Church in Thame, when he addressed families of loved ones lost in road accidents.
