Abingdon GC have received £8,235 from Sport England towards the cost of a new floor area at their Berinsfield training centre.

With the help of their landlords, Jennings of Garsington, the club were able to expand into a nearby empty unit at the end of last year.

This has doubled the available space at their training facility in Berinsfield, but also means that to make maximum use of it, the club must spend more money on equipment and safety matting.

Abingdon have already received £2,000 from the Wells Sports Foundation last month towards the setting up costs of the new building.

Club chairman Neil Moulster said: “This Sport England funding is tremendous news.

“The extra space and equipment will allow us to run more classes and also improve the training facilities for our talented competition squad gymnasts.

“Over the next 12 months we intend to continue developing our facility and introduce more classes to cope with the ever increasing demand.”
