Lord Mayor's Christmas Carol finally to hit stage

IT WON’T be a ‘Silent Night’ at Oxford Town Hall tomorrow when the venue finally plays host to the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carol Concert.

The Lord Mayor John Goddard, left, is hoping to keep the city in the festive spirit after re-arranging the popular annual event.

Tickets for the concert sold out in two days earlier this month, but the event scheduled for Sunday, December 19, had to be cancelled after eight inches of snow fell on Oxford.

More than 600 tickets for the concert were sold and are still valid for the re-arranged date.

Mr Goddard is hoping to be in fine voice himself – it is traditional for the Lord Mayor to sing two verses of Good King Wenceslas solo.

He said: “We need people to know the concert’s definitely going ahead.

“The new date is still within the 12 days of Christmas and extending the Christmas spirit a little bit longer has to be a good thing.”

All the money raised from the concert will be donated to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance and the Valerie Taylor Trust, which supports disabled people in Bangladesh.

The concert starts at 2.30pm.
