Abingdon United 1 (Haysham 86)

Gosport Borough 3 (Jones 38, Bennett 44, Long 85)

Abingdon United defender Richard Peirson was sent off as Saturday’s Division 1 South & West match sprung into life just before half-time.

Ian Jones had just put Gosport ahead when, with Abingdon players arguing over a free-kick, Gosport raced upfield to make it 2-0 through Justin Bennett.

Peirson was booked for his haranguing of the referee, and almost immediately received a second yellow for a bad tackle.

Abingdon’s ten men battled well in the second half, John Mills missing a great opportunity.

With five minutes left, Ryan Long made it 3-0, after rounding Alan Foster, who was in goal following Jon Beames’s appendix operation.

United got a consolation goal four minutes from time when substitute Pablo Haysham crashed the ball into the back of the net after good work from Steve Davis.

Abingdon Utd: Foster, Elkins, Peirson, Franklin, Davis, Gardner, Organ, Harper, Horsell Marsh 76), Mills, Odhiambo (Haysham 67). Subs not used: Bourne, Carnell

Attendance: 84.
