A GRANDFATHER clock, a writing desk and a walnut chaise longue are among the creations being showcased by talented Oxford schoolgirls.
The Oxford High School pupils are putting the finishing touches to their exhibition, which will be unveiled tomorrow at the senior school’s open day for prospective pupils and parents, between 6.30pm and 9pm.
The girls have spent months designing and building their creations, which form part of their GCSE coursework.
Chris Phillips, head of design and technology at the school in Belbroughton Road, North Oxford, said: “Art and design is about application of the knowledge that they have learned elsewhere.
“For A-Level, one of the girls has made outdoor seating based on Cinderella’s carriage. It was cut and remodelled but she had to work out and calculate all the profiles for the end of the tubes. It’s the application of maths and physics. The girls are very academic, but they’re also very creative.”
