Two classy strikes from young wing wizard Matthew Holton gave Marston Saints a 2-1 extra-time win at home to Bletchingdon in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup first round, writes BRIAN KIRK.

Mark Gaul’s perseverance created an opening in the Bletchingdon penalty area for Holton to smash the ball home from an acute angle from 12 yards for the opener in the first half.

Dannell Steele equalised with a superb solo effort after the break, powering forward 40 yards before smahing a low drive into the bottom corner.

With no further goals, the match went into extra time and there were only minutes left when Holton hit a terrific 25-yard left foot strike which cannoned in off the underside of the bar to spark wild celebrations.

The victory earned Marston a trip to Witney United in round two.

Mansfield Road eased to a 3-0 home win over Rover Cowley.

Right back Adam Halewood set Mansfield Road on the way with his first goal for the club when he made a lung-bursting run into the box after eight minutes to finish after Adam Healy squared the ball to him.

Mansfield Road doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time, with Healy tapping in Rob Frost’s cross.

The hosts wrapped up victory in the second half when debutant Leon Farr snuck in unmarked at the back post to notch No 3 from a long throw.
