Firefighters rescued an elderly woman from her smoke-logged home after a discarded cigarette started a blaze.
Fire crews were called to the bungalow in Martens Road at 9.50pm on Tuesday and found the woman in the kitchen area.
A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire Service said the woman was treated for the effects of inhaling smoke and was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
The spokesman added that the fire started accidentally when the cigarette set fire to a cushion on a sofa.
Incident commander Pete Graham said: “The crews’ rapid actions saved the lady in the bungalow. The property had a working smoke alarm which helped to raise the alarm.”
