IT CAN certainly pay to keep a watch on our Face In The Crowd promotion.
Longtime Oxford United fan David Riley only discovered he had won the £75 prize thanks to David Bartlett, the son of a friend, who spotted him picked out in Monday’s Oxford Mail as our Face In The Crowd.
Mr Riley, from Newbury, was watching Oxford United’s 4-0 win against Morecambe on Saturday.
The 73-year-old has been a fan since 1962, when he lived in Wantage and Oxford joined the Football League.
Mr Riley said: “I don’t live in the area any more so can’t get the paper, but my friend Pat Bartlett told me.
“I was very surprised.
“I think I will probably take my wife Barbara out for a nice meal with the money.”
Mr Bartlett, also a long standing U’s fan, said he had just turned away when the picture was taken.
He said: “It was actually my son who spotted David in the crowd and said I should ring him.
“It’s typical – I will stand up next week!”
We are giving away £75 to our Face In The Crowd winner from every home league game this season.
