A 25-YEAR-OLD woman died after the glider she was piloting crashed in a field on the edge of Bicester.

Witnesses tonight told how they heard a ‘crack’ and saw a glider spiral out of the sky at the Bicester airfield yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the Buckingham Road site at 3.15pm after reports a glider had come down at the Bicester Gliding Centre, home of the Windrushers Gliding Club.

The woman, from Lancashire, was the only occupant of the glider and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. She has not yet been identified.

Tonight, no one from the gliding centre was willing to comment.

Notices at the locked entrance in Skimmingdish Lane read: “We regret that the airfield is closed until further notice. Please do not enter for any reason.”

Tonight, investigators from the Air Accident Investigation Branch were still at the scene trying to find out how the accident happened.

Witnesses described seeing the wings come off before the crash.
