‘Dangerous’ trees felled

TWO trees on Osney Island in Oxford were cut down yesterday despite earlier protests from residents who wanted to save them.

Oxford City Council said the pair of rowans in South Street were diseased and posed a potential safety risk.

But Phillip Bradley, of West Street, and other residents feared that the trees were being sacrficed to make way for solar panels in council homes behind them.

At a meeting with residents last week, council officers warned the trees were in danger of falling down. But they pledged to replace them in the winter.

I suppose we don't need trees anymore, because our homes are-Centrally-Heated
? may-be?

Disease or no disease they were going to be felled. Councils are so afraid of trees that the very mention of disease will see them running with their chainsaws. A win win situation for Low Carbon West Oxford.

Why have "Dangerous" in quotation marks? I can't understand why the Oxford Mail continues to present the story of these trees as if it was a conspiracy theory. The trees were found to be diseased and would possibly have fallen in high winds. Falling trees kill people. It was discovered because a survey was carried out for the soalr panels according to your earlier article, not because they had to be removed for the solar panels which, incidentally, didn't require their removal.

Cllr Ken, I will never understand your comments, but this one really baffled me. Where's the link between councils felling trees and central heating? I will be pondering this all day.

A while back OCC was criticised for taking too long to fell a diseased tree which was blown over in high winds killing a young girl. They really can't win.

These trees are dangerous, one had a hoody on and threatened a passer by with a piece of wood.

Dear Berty of-(Abingdon),

Please forgive me, for not writing in Understandable-in somany words?

In olden days people needed the Fire in their Rooms, there they were taking the dead woods for fires-without charges? (many years ago).
(in Oxon-&-Bucks) I was told by S.T.

Dear Mr Tiwari. In olden days people needed workers for their plantations, they were taking the slaves for working-without charges? (many years ago) Does that make it right now?
