Pub destroyed in blaze

More than 60 firefighters tackled a serious blaze in a former Oxford pub early this morning.

Crews from across the county were called to the derelict King of Prussia pub in Oxford Road in Rose Hill at 12.30am and battled for two and a half hours until the flames were brought under control.

Three people living next door to the pub were treated at the scene by the British Red Cross fire emergency support unit as crews battled to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings.

Part of the building collapsed in the blaze and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene today.

The King of Prussia pub has planning permission to be turned into a supermarket.

An investigation has now been launched by fire crews and police to discover the cause of the fire.
