Joyriders caused more havoc for a troubled estate when they crashed into a wall this morning.

They sped around the Horspath Road maisonettes in Oxford three times last night, swearing and shouting and leaving behind a thick black cloud of exhaust fumes.

Residents have repeatedly called for the run-down maisonettes to be demolished after having to put up with joyriding, drug trafficking, prostitution, tyres being slashed and windows being smashed.

One resident, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals, said the problems had abated but were now getting worse again.

A fire crew, police and paramedics were alerted just after 2am when the joyriders crashed into a wall on the corner with Normandy Crescent and Horspath Road.

Police said three men escaped from the scene and had not yet been caught.
