Transport minister Glenda Jackson has said everything is being done to try to reduce noise levels on the A34 around Oxford.
Ms Jackson was speaking last night in a special House of Commons debate secured by the Oxford West and Abingdon MP Evan Harris.
Ms Jackson said further improvements to the road would take noise into account.
She said: "We have instructed the Highways Agency that noise-reducing surfacing will be considered when carrying out resurfacing work in noise sensitive areas. This has already been done at Botley."
There have been numerous complaints about noise on the concrete surface of the A34 between the Peartree interchange north of Oxford and Wendlebury.
