The father of Lexie McConnell, who died after being given steroids, has welcomed a debate in the Commons.
On Monday, MPs will debate the need to monitor side effects of prescribed drugs on children.
Campaigners want to see drug companies made to monitor the impact of their products. The death of nine-year-old Abingdon girl Lexie is being used to highlight the issue.
Her father, Art McConnell, of East St Helen Street, said: "We have always believed the issues here are far greater than just side effects of a single drug. It's affecting hundreds of lives everywhere. I'm not saying people are dying as a result of drugs prescribed, but the effects of the levels administered needs to be monitored. As far as we know there have been five other deaths from overdoses of prescribed steroids." Lexie died after she was prescribed steroids for an eye infection in 1992. Her parents have campaigned for a public inquiry and are suing Oxfordshire Health Authority for negligence.
