A mother of two died after taking an overdose of three prescribed drugs, an inquest in Oxford heard.

Allison Sowerby, 34, was found dead in bed at her home in Broadway Close, Witney, on July 22 last year. Neighbour Wendy Lovegrove raised the alarm after noticing Mrs Sowerby had not moved her car for several days.

Dr David Davies, a consultant pathologist at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, said levels of three prescription drugs found in her blood were each high enough to have killed her.

Dr Michael Orr, a consultant psychiatrist with the Oxfordshire Mental Health Trust, said Mrs Sowerby had a history of anxiety and intense feelings of insecurity.

He said she was particularly distressed in the weeks before her death as she struggled to come to terms with formally separating from her husband.

Her estranged husband, Paul Sowerby, said she had suffered from severe depression ever since he knew her.

The coroner, Nicholas Gardiner, recorded a verdict that she took her own life.
