The power of mathematics to unlock secret codes was the theme of a talk at Gosford Hill School, Kidlington.

Author Simon Singh, who wrote the bestseller Fermat's Last Theorem, brought one of the few remaining World War Two German Enigma encryption machines to illustrate his talk on mathematics and code breaking.

His talk was heard by about 80 A-Level maths and physics students from Gosford Hill School and Peers School, in Oxford.
Helen Reynolds, head of physics at Gosford Hill, said Mr Singh's talk was an inspiration to the students.
