Two care workers have been honoured for their work at an Oxfordshire old people's home.

Head of care Cindy Machell and night sister Karen Clews at Cotswold Home, in Bradwell Grove, Burford, were both highly commended in the Care Awards 2002, in London.

Ms Machell was recognised in the Care Practitioner of the Year category, while Ms Clews was shortlisted in the Training Assessor of the Year section.

Staff and the 51 residents at the home, which is run by the charitable Elizabeth Finn Trust, praised the pair for their hard work and commitment.

They said Ms Machell visited residents in hospital and helped with their shopping.

Matron manager Pat Hamilton said: "We appreciate Cindy enormously for the difference she makes.

"She is always there with a ready ear and a helping hand, and is missed greatly on her days off."

Ms Clews, who heads a team of 15 night staff, was also commended by her colleagues.

Night care assistant Sue Smith said: "Karen is very generous in giving up her own time for us."

The Care Awards were organised by industry magazine Caring Times. The event took place on Thursday, December 5.
